Jacob, today is the day I set up your blog. Your sister has one, even though I don't update it often. Prehaps one day you'll log on to see what I wrote about you when you were small. Or you'll log on and add your own thoughts about life. Who knows. For know, we'll use it to share thoughts with friends and family.
Naming
Jacob Isaac Sonnier Johnson. That's a long name for such a little boy. It may be long, but your name has meaning. Your father choose Jacob for your first name. We spent hours trying to decide if you should have an A name or a J name. All of your cousins and your brother and sister have names that begin with A or J. AJ, Johnathon, Janvier, Ariana, Joshua and Jordan. Believe it or not, you were almost an Aidan. ;-) Your first and last names come from your father.
The first part of your middle name is Isaac. You were named after my father's grandfather, Isaac Quill. A brief genealogy lesson. Isaac Quill was my father's grandfather. He is the son of George Quill. George Quill is the son of Patty Quill. Patty and George ended up in Louisiana by way of Kentucky. George and Patty were slaves. Isaac was the first male Quill born emancipated - post slavery. So your middle name is in honor of our first free born male relative. I hope that freedom means something to you as you grow up.
The second part of your middle name is my maiden name - Sonnier. You and your sister carry that part of my name. My dad is George Sonnier and since I am his only child and a girl, the name ends with me. I wanted you and your sister to carry a part of our legacy on with you.
Welcome to the world Jacob Isaac. Pleased to meet you.
